Earthquake In LA
An Earthquake shook LA today but I did not feel it because I was riding in a car towards Salvation Mountain to see my friend Leonard. However, my friend Erika (on the right) was involved in this earthquake video.

3 Reasons Why Metallica Sucks
(This is not about Metallica's music. It is about the members.)
1. The war against Napster. Metallic was the most outspoken band against Napster. Ok, file sharing is illegal but was it necessary to go after broke college students and fine them thousands of dollars per song.
2. SOME KIND OF MONSTER
This 2004 comedy, or documentary, reveals the members of Metallica as the true drama-queen turds they are.

Beth Stelling "Celebrity"
My comedian friend Beth from Chicago documented her travels to Los Angeles to compete in the semi-finals of the California's Funniest Female Contest. I attended the first and second rounds of the competition where she kicked ass and move on into the semi-finals. Unfortunately I was unable to attend the semi-finals which may or may not have contributed to the results. Anyway, she is a funny and talented girl so enjoy the video.

1 Year Ago Today
My friends Robert and Becky got married in Malibu. It was one of the most amazing weddings I have attended and the only one I have DJ'd. I made this video of the event. Congratulations Robert and Becky on your first aniversary.

Stub Stories #8
MR. BUNGLE / MELT BANANA
1995. It was a cold night in Raleigh, NC and Mr. Bungle was playing at The Brewery, a local landmark rock club that holds maybe 300 people and is located just blocks from the campus of NC State University. I went with several friends who I can't remember. Maybe Mike Nickels was with me. Anyway, Mr. Bungle is a schitzo genre jumping rock band headed by Mike Patton who was also the lead singer of Faith No More. I loved their first album and they were touring in support of their second album which I hadn't heard yet. And to honest with you, I don't remember a lot about Mr. Bungle's set except they all wore mask.
The highlight of the night was the opening band Melt Banana. I had no idea who they were except I had heard they were from Japan. It was their first time touring in America. The band consist of a female singer, a female bassist, a male drummer, and a male guitarist who wore a surgical mask. They looked cute when they took the stage with giant smiles on their faces. The bass players bass was almost as tall as her. The singer said with a big smile "It's so nice to be here in...", she looks back to the band for confirmation of where they are and says "Rawree". They then began this assault on their instruments and blew my mind. They transformed in seconds from lovable Japanese tourist to manic hardcore metal gods. The guitarist was making noises and doing things on a guitar that I had never seen (see the second video). I had such a big smile on my face during their whole set because I was so happy to be there watching this unknown band Melt Banana do their thing. Mr. Bungle had the show stolen from them by their opening act.
After the show we went to IHOP and just before we finished Melt Banana showed up. The guitarist still wearing his surgical mask. I love walking into the unknown and walking out with a treasure.

Happy 4th Of July
Last year we celebrated Independence Day with a cookout at Hillary's and then did a bar crawl in Hollywood via the subway system. I made this video from footage taken near the end of the night.

Top 10 Albums Of 2008 (so far)
1. BLACK TAJ - Beyonder
Southern fried indie rock featuring 2 members of Polvo.
Good and funny songs from the New Zealand duo from their HBO comedy show.
Another solid album of Southern rock from the Athens, GA band.
Claire told me about these guys from Seattle. Recommend if you like My Morning Jacket and Band Of Horses.
Hayden's music is a little more "happy" than his previous work but still great music from the Canadian.
7. THIS WILL DESTROY YOU - This Will Destroy You
These instrumentalists from Texas sound just like Explosions In The Sky and that is a good thing in my book.
These instrumentalists from Texas sound just like Explosions In The Sky and that is a good thing in my book.
Solo project from the Atlanta, GA singer of Deerhunter.
The album cover alone is great.
I'm sick of this album but there is no denying the infectiousness of this Afro-pop flavored album.
