3 Out Of 5 Historians Agree
3 out of 5 historians agree that George W Bush's Presidency is the worst out of all of the 42 presidents. 109 professional historians were informally surveyed about the president's performance. 61% rate him as the worst president.
Only 2 out of the 109 historians surveyed classified Bush's presidency as a success. The other 107, like me, consider Bush a failure.
Only 270 days left in the worst presidency in US history.

Record Store Day
Today is National Record Store Day. Go out and support your local independent record/cd/music store. This does not mean go to Wal-Mart or Best Buy. Go to a record store independently owned by a person, not a corporation.
Some of my favorites:
AMOEBA MUSIC - Hollywood, San Francisco, Berkeley
AQUARIUS RECORDS - San Francisco
ROCKAWAY RECORDS - Los Angeles
SCHOOLKIDS RECORDS - Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Athens, GA
RECORD EXCHANGE - Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Greensboro (not sure if this is still around)

Real Men of Genius #3
KOOL KEITH
Kool Keith is an underground hip hop pioneer. No one rhymes like him. No one. His rhymes are complex and bizarre stream-of-consciousness flow that often refer to science, space, and commercial hip hop. He uses many aliases including Dr. Octagon, Black Elvis, Dr. Dooom, and Mr. Nogatco.
Kool Keith started in the NY hip hop group ULTRAMAGNETIC MC'S (1987)
as DR. OCTAGON (1996)
as KOOL KEITH (1997)
as BLACK ELVIS (1999)
as DR. OCTAGON (2006)
as DR. OCTAGON (2006)
as MR. NOGATCO (2006)

Pulp Fiction Rumors
Justin Canada told me about this one. There is a rumor that Quentin Tarantino wanted to use the song "My Sharona" during the Gimp torture sequence in the film Pulp Fiction but ended up using a surf song because of licensing issues. Here is the scene with "My Sharona".

Inside The Pixies
Last night I watched this documentary which follows the Pixies on their 2004 reunion tour. The Pixies broke up in 1992 because of tension between members. This film is about where their lives are 12 years later and how they get along after going their separate ways. It was kind of sad to see a band who was moderately successful but hugely influential struggle to deal with each other and their own demons. The film is a candid look inside a band similar to Metallica's film Some Kind Of Monster but with less drama.
You can see the film in its entirety until the end of this week online at pitchfork.tv. Click on "One Week Only" and then click on the Loud Quit Loud box.

Library of Congress Photos Released
The Library of Congress is releasing historical photos into public domain through Flickr. So far they have uploaded over 3200 images to Flickr which are available for anyone to download. The total number of images released could reach 14 million. Most images so far are from the early to mid 1900's. It is a fascinating look back at life in America.

I Played In A Band Named... #2
Sometimes I would call my friends in Calexico and say "Hey, you're going to be my backup band tonight," and send them to the wrong club. They would always fall for that. It was hilarious.
I even got to sing on tv on Carson Daly's show on NBC.
